Thailand Cracks Down on Fake "Made in Thailand" Goods Worth Over US$2.97 Million

The Thai Customs Department, in cooperation with the Department of Foreign Trade, has announced the results of a joint enforcement operation at Laem Chabang Port that led to the seizure of imported goods falsely labeled as being of Thai origin. The products, imported from China, were marked “Made in Thailand” despite not being manufactured in the country. The total value of the seized goods exceeds 100 million baht (approximately 2.97 million US dollars).

Thailand has stepped up efforts to combat illegal imports and exports, particularly the fraudulent use of false country-of-origin claims to obtain unfair trade advantages. Authorities said such practices distort international trade and damage the reputation of Thai exports.

The operation resulted in two major seizures:
• 5.37 million TWOMOON cigarettes imported from China, with packaging falsely stating “Made in Thailand.” The estimated damage was valued at approximately 17 million baht (505,000 dollars);
• Over 202,000 sets of utility knives and multi-purpose tool sets worth 84.27 million baht (2.5 million dollars). Although imported from China, the products were packaged and labeled as "Made in Thailand."
Both shipments improperly utilized Thailand’s customs and free-zone privileges while falsely claiming Thai origin.

During a 10-month period from October 2025 to July 2026, authorities at the Laem Chabang Port intercepted 41 cases of origin-swapping, with a total value of 442.64 million baht (13.15 million dollars). These cases were part of 177 total illegal seizure cases valued at over 1.37 billion baht (40.7 million dollars).
