Thailand Steps Up Nationwide Crackdown on Illegal Guns & Explosives

Police General Kittirat Panpetch, the Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, has ordered all police units nationwide to strengthen firearms controls and enhance security following recent violent incidents involving firearms and explosives.

The measures include a nationwide crackdown on offenses involving firearms, ammunition, and explosives. Police will identify and monitor targets and conduct search operations to seize firearms, military weapons, ammunition, explosives, and imitation weapons. Authority will also target the illegal sale of such items, both in physical locations and through social media platforms.

Security at public places will be tightened through increased patrols, firearms checks, and inspections of suspicious individuals and vehicles. Police will also be strengthening their response to incident reports and crime scenes. All police units have also been instructed to inspect and properly control their service pistols in accordance with regulations.

Police commanders at all levels have been directed to coordinate closely between investigative and crime-prevention units to ensure that all operations are conducted effectively and in strict compliance with the law and established police procedures.
