Thai PM to Visit Australia and New Zealand

to Boost Trade, Investment & Strategic Ties

Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul is set to make official visits to Australia from 17–20 August 2026, the first by a Thai Prime Minister in 14 years, followed by New Zealand from 20–22 August 2026, marking the first such visit in 13 years, as Thailand looks to advance high-level relations with both nations.

In Australia, discussions will center on implementing the Joint Plan of Action for the Strategic Partnership 2026–2029. In New Zealand, the visit will culminate in the signing of a joint declaration elevating bilateral relations to a full Strategic Partnership.

On the economic front, the Prime Minister will lead a Thai private-sector delegation to a series of business networking events aimed at expanding markets for agricultural products, food, and consumer goods. The mission will also seek to attract investment from major companies such as Skyline Enterprises and Fisher & Paykel into future industries and clean energy, while deepening science and technology cooperation between Thailand's National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) and Australia's Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) to drive commercial innovation.

On security and public welfare, the two governments are committed to strengthening cooperation against transnational crime alongside efforts to resume direct flights between Bangkok and Auckland.

Together, these engagements aim to boost tourism, education, and people-to-people ties — turning diplomatic relations into tangible benefits for Thailand and its people.
