Thailand and Russia reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties as Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow held talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow on 14 August 2026.
The two sides discussed cooperation across politics, security, trade and investment, agriculture, tourism and culture, with Thailand highlighting the importance of reducing trade barriers and pushing forward negotiations for a Thailand–Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement.
The talks took place alongside the 9th Session of the Thailand–Russia Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation, which also focused on expanding trade and investment, energy and food security, connectivity, and tourism. The meeting also set the stage for the second Russia–Thailand Investment Forum, scheduled to take place in Bangkok in October 2026.
Both sides also signed the sixth Plan of Consultations between their foreign ministries for 2026–2030, providing a framework for continued dialogue and cooperation ahead of the 130th anniversary of Thailand–Russia diplomatic relations in 2027.
