Thailand has officially published a new Office of the Prime Minister's Regulation on Deportation, signed by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, effective from 28 August 2026.

● What's the goal?

The regulation sets out clear, efficient procedures for state agencies to handle the deportation of foreign nationals who violate the law or engage in conduct that threatens public order and morality, helping ensure safety for both Thai citizens and the many foreigners who live, work, and travel in Thailand lawfully.

● Who does this apply to?

The regulation covers foreign nationals involved in six key categories of offenses:
 Illegal entry or overstaying under immigration law
 Working without proper authorization
 Operating a business in violation of foreign business law
 Forging or using fraudulent official documents
 Committing offenses punishable by 5+ years imprisonment
 Acting as a principal, instigator, or accomplice in the above

The new rules also improve coordination between the Department of Corrections and the Ministry of Interior. This means that once a foreign national completes their prison sentence, the deportation process can begin right away, without unnecessary delays.

This regulation isn't about restricting legitimate travel, work, or investment; it's about drawing a clearer line between foreigners who contribute positively to Thai society and those who break the law. As the government has emphasized, Thailand continues to warmly welcome law-abiding foreign visitors, workers, and residents, while ensuring firm, consistent action against those who don't respect its laws.
