Thailand has risen one place to 44th in the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2026, published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The index evaluates 139 economies using 79 innovation performance indicators.
Among the 35 upper-middle-income economies, Thailand ranks fourth in ASEAN and 10th out of 17 economies in Southeast Asia, East Asia and Oceania. Its key innovation strengths include business sophistication, knowledge, and technology.
Based on the GII results, Thailand’s National Innovation Agency (NIA) plans to further develop the national innovation ecosystem by helping entrepreneurs gain access to testing facilities, investment opportunities, and international markets, while supporting technology sectors with strong global demand.
The NIA also aims to connect entrepreneurs with venture capital firms, corporate investors, and international partners to support the commercialization of innovations and expand their markets.
In addition, it will promote the Thai Innovation List to expand government procurement of certified innovative products and services, helping businesses secure customers, generate revenue, and demonstrate real-world applications.
