Thailand and Laos Partner to Advance Security and Development

On 1 October 2026, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow paid a courtesy call on Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone.

Both sides agreed to step up cooperation on combating narcotic drugs and online scams, and on addressing transboundary haze pollution. They also committed to reaching a bilateral trade target of US$11 billion (roughly THB370 billion) by 2027. Other priorities include boosting border economic development, enhancing energy security, and strengthening cross-border connectivity through aligned regulations, improved road and rail links, and tourism.

The Deputy Prime Minister also visited the Vientiane Logistics Park near the First Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge, where he discussed ways to improve bilateral transport efficiency, a cornerstone of regional connectivity.

These frequent high-level visits and shared commitments reinforce the enduring ties between Thailand and the Lao PDR, driving mutual security and sustainable growth.
