The USS George H.W. Bush (CVN-77) and another aircraft carrier are anchored about 1.78 nautical miles (approximately 3.3 kilometers) from Phuket Deep Sea Port in Mueang District. This allows 5,109 U.S. Navy personnel to spend their shore leave in Phuket from 4 to 9 October 2026.

During their stay, the personnel are expected to go sightseeing and relax around the province. No areas have been designated off-limits, though they are prohibited from driving or riding as passengers on motorcycles.

The U.S. Navy has deployed personnel to maintain order and set up a coordination and assistance center to support the sailors. Meanwhile, Thai authorities are working together on measures covering security, traffic management, and general assistance, so that the sailors' travels around Phuket are smooth and safe.
