Thailand Unveils Flood-Ready Plan for IMF-World Bank Meetings 2026

The Ministry of Finance, the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD), and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) have jointly confirmed that Thailand is fully prepared to host the IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings 2026, taking place 12-18 October at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center.

The TMD reports that short, heavy downpours of 30-50 mm may occur on 10-11 October during the transition from the rainy season to the cool season. Rainfall is expected to return to normal levels during the main conference dates of 12-16 October.

The Ministry of Finance has also assured that the venue, all 21 official hotels in the surrounding area, and the transit routes from Suvarnabhumi Airport will remain unaffected.

To keep international participants safe and ensure smooth logistics, the BMA has activated proactive water management measures and set up a 24-hour emergency operations center, which will stay active until the final delegate departs. Key measures include:

• Integrated Drainage & Tunnel Systems
Deploys a comprehensive flood-defense network featuring high-capacity pumps and large underground drainage tunnels to rapidly clear street runoff and push excess water out to the main river.

• Targeted High-Risk Monitoring
Establishes dedicated monitoring teams at critical zones like Wat Pathum Wanaram, the Police General Hospital, and Sukhumvit Soi 16, 22, and 23, supported by swift units and 3 mobile pumping trucks on 24h standby.

• 24-Hour Joint Operations Center
Operates a continuous emergency hub to manage secure transit and round-the-clock operations until the final delegate departs.

Together, these measures reflect Thailand's strong commitment to a safe, seamless, and memorable gathering for every international delegate.

Thailand is ready to welcome the world.
