Hua Hin: Royal Heritage, Coastal Life and a Quieter Escape

Looking for a different side of Thailand's beach scene? South of Bangkok along the Gulf of Thailand lies Hua Hin — once a quiet fishing village that became Thailand's original royal seaside retreat after the Southern Railway arrived in 1911.

Today, traces of that history remain in landmarks such as the historic Railway Hotel, Thailand’s first Royal Hua Hin Golf Course, and Klai Kangwon Palace, giving the town distinctive character shaped by its royal past.

∙ Slower pace, wider appeal

Beyond Thailand’s busier beach destinations, Hua Hin is known for a relaxed coastal atmosphere with a wide range of experiences. Its long beaches and calm pace appeal to families and those seeking a quieter getaway. At the same time, championship golf courses and wellness resorts cater to visitors looking for leisure, health, and longevity experiences. The town also offers fresh Gulf seafood, lively night markets, and attractions ranging from a water park to a vineyard.

∙ A destination on the rise

Alongside Phuket and Ko Samui, Thailand is positioning Hua Hin as a world-class destination, with wellness tourism, sporting events, and luxury hospitality leading the way. Big things are coming: Hua Hin Airport is set to reopen to international flights, with runway expansion and terminal upgrades to be completed by the end of 2026, and authorities are pushing for direct routes from Kuala Lumpur, Taipei, Shanghai, and Singapore.

∙ Something happening year-round

From the Hua Hin Jazz Festival and International Kite Festival to beach polo, marathons, kiteboarding, and windsurfing, there's always a reason to visit. Combined with its beaches, food, culture, and laid-back vibe, it's easy to see why Hua Hin is fast becoming a favorite for international travelers.
