The Ministry of Education through the Centre for the Development of Gifted and Talented Education (EDGE) has coordinated the participation of students and teacher at the 12th Online ASEAN+3 Student Camp for the Gifted in Science dan 14th Online ASEAN+3 Teacher Workshop for the Gifted in Science organised by ASEAN+3 Center for the Gifted in Science (ACGS) and Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Technology (KOFAC) funded by Ministry of Science and ICT, Republic of Korea and supported by ASEAN Secretariat and Society of International Gifted in Science, Republic of Korea which was held online for five days on 07 to 08 January 2023 and 13 to 15 January 2023.
A total of six students represented Brunei Darussalam which was divided into two teams under the supervision of Awang Haji Eddy Masirwan bin Haji Dolah, Education Officer from Maktab Sains Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan. Brunei Team A is represented by Awangku Md Aiman Bashyir bin Pengiran Mas Zaimuliani; Awang Joshua Hung Ji Chien; and Dayang Lee Jing Jing Year 10 students from Maktab Sains Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan. While Dayang Ting Pei Tong, a Year 11 student from Sekolah Menengah Chung Hwa (Bandar Seri Begawan); Dayang Rabi'atul Nur Qistina Aqilah binti Juperi; and Awang Arsh Hannan Qays bin Haji Suhardy both Year 10 students from Sekolah Menengah Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar representing Brunei Team B.
The programmes are themed “Learning Together through Online Inquiry" and “Preparing Students for the Future".
During the 12th Online ASEAN+3 Student Camp for the Gifted in Science, Brunei Team A and Brunei Team B each won the Bronze Medal for the 'Best Presentation Award' and Brunei Team A won the 'Cultural Night Award' where the presentation video introducing the culture of Brunei Darussalam was selected as the best video by students from other countries. For the inidividual category, Dayang Ting Pei Tong from Brunei Team B was selected as the medal recipient for the 'Outstanding Student Award' while Awang Joshua Hung Ji Chien from Brunei Team A was selected as the medal recipient for the 'Mascot Contest Award'.
Through the 12th Online ASEAN+3 Student Camp for the Gifted in Science, students have the opportunity to participate in various activities and sessions such as listening to keynote speeches from invited speakers, attending lectures and discussions in preparation for the students' presentation sessions. The students also shared two videos about Brunei Darussalam's culture.
Teachers also had the opportunity to attend seminars, discuss and get new ideas related to education in addition to establishing a network among educators from the ASEAN+3 region through virtual sharing.
The students representatives also participated in the pre-camp programme which is the 2nd Global Online Science Camp held online on 27 August to 15 October 2022. During the pre-camp programme, the students from Team Brunei A (in the group event) and Dayang Ting Pei Tong from Team Brunei B (in the individual event) each managed to won the gold medals.
