Malaysia Considers New Law to Combat Cyberbullying

Malaysia is exploring the need for new legislation to address the growing issue of cyberbullying. According to Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, the rapidly evolving digital landscape has highlighted the urgent need for specific laws to tackle this problem.

While existing laws like Sections 503 and 509 of the Penal Code can be applied in some cases, they are not directly tailored to cyberbullying. The government aims to create a more comprehensive legal framework to protect citizens, especially children and families, from online harassment.

In addition to cyberbullying, other online threats such as fraud and online gambling are also being considered as part of the government's efforts to create a safer digital environment.

By taking proactive steps to combat cyberbullying and other online crimes, Malaysia is demonstrating its commitment to creating a safer online environment for its citizens. This move could serve as a model for other countries facing similar challenges.
