Film production company GDH 559 Ltd plans to work with partners in South Korea, Indonesia, and Vietnam to elevate the Thai film industry to a global level. CEO Jina Osothsilp mentioned on Wednesday that the second half of the year is expected to sustain the positive momentum of the first half, which saw 150 films released and generated approximately 1.22 billion baht (data from theaters in Bangkok and Chiang Mai only).
Among these, 23 Thai films earned 439 million baht, while 127 international films made 785 million baht.
Jina highlighted that GDH’s successful film "How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies," released in April, has been a major hit, bringing in 339 million baht domestically (172 million baht from Bangkok and Chiang Mai) and around 1.2 billion baht globally.
The film has been shown in 16 countries and territories outside Thailand, including Australia, New Zealand, and Hong Kong, with plans to release in China, South Korea, and Japan later this year using a revenue-sharing model.
In Thailand, GDH has teamed up with JAI Studios, Raruek Production, and Billkin Entertainment to produce three films. Internationally, the company is in talks with partners in South Korea, Indonesia, and Vietnam.
