The seventh meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives (CPR) to ASEAN was convened today in Vientiane, chaired by Mr. Bovonthat Duangchack, the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Lao PDR to ASEAN.
Participants included permanent representatives from ASEAN member states, representatives from Timor-Leste as observers, and officials from the ASEAN Secretariat.
The meeting reviewed the progress of implementing the outcomes from the ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting and related meetings held in Vientiane from June 6-8. Discussions focused on tracking the progress of building the ASEAN Community, strengthening external relations and cooperation, and refining the annual work plan for the ASEAN Standing Committee.
Preparations for the upcoming ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on July 23 were also discussed. The CPR, established in 2009 following the enforcement of the ASEAN Charter, has several roles as defined in Article 12 of the Charter, including: Supporting the work of the ASEAN Community Councils and sectoral ministerial bodies;
Coordinating with ASEAN national secretariats and sectoral ministerial bodies; Collaborating with the ASEAN Secretary-General and the ASEAN Secretariat on related tasks;
Facilitating ASEAN’s cooperation with external partners; Performing additional duties as determined by the ASEAN Coordinating Council.
