Thai Cabinet Establishes Standard Compensation Rate for Flood Victims

Thai Cabinet has updated its compensation plan for flood victims, introducing a fixed payment of 9,000 baht per household, replacing the previous range of 5,000 to 9,000 baht. This uniform rate has been approved in principle, with final confirmation expected on October 8.

The decision comes after discussions involving the Prime Minister, Deputy Interior Minister Theerarat Samrejvanich, and Deputy Defense Minister Gen. Nattaphon Narkphanit, who have been assessing flood-affected areas. In parallel, the Ministry of Finance has proposed additional financial aid for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and freelancers affected by the floods.

As part of the revised scheme, the Government Savings Bank (GSB) will allocate 50 billion baht from its low-interest loan budget to financial institutions, enabling them to offer loans to SMEs and freelancers at an interest rate capped at 3.5% for two years. The GSB will provide these funds to financial institutions at a 0.01% interest rate for the same duration. Borrowers can apply for loans up to 40 million baht until December 30.
