Phnom Penh, Cambodia – To mark the 20th anniversary of the coronation of King Norodom Sihamoni, the Royal Government of Cambodia has introduced a new 200,000 Riel banknote. The commemorative note, approximately equivalent to US$50, will circulate alongside existing banknotes throughout the country.
The sub-decree authorizing the new banknote was signed on October 16 by Prime Minister Hun Manet. The National Bank of Cambodia also released an official announcement detailing the design and features of the note.
Measuring 170 mm by 76 mm, the banknote showcases a dominant color palette of brown, orange, and pink. The front side features portraits of both King Sihamoni and Queen-Mother Norodom Monineath. On the back, the image of King Sihamoni and the iconic Bayon Temple in Siem Reap province is prominently displayed.
The inscription "Congratulations to the 20-Year Anniversary of the Coronation Day of His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni (29 October 2004 - 20 October 2024)" is also included on the back of the banknote.
This new banknote adds to a series of commemorative banknotes issued by the Cambodian government to honor significant milestones in the country's history and royal family. In 2019, a 15,000 Riel banknote was released to mark the 15th anniversary of King Sihamoni's coronation.
