On October 20, 2024, Prabowo Subianto was officially sworn in as the 8th President of Indonesia, marking the start of his leadership term from 2024 to 2029. Prabowo secured his victory in the presidential election held in March 2024, but had to wait for the term of his predecessor, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), to end before taking office.
The inauguration ceremony, held in Jakarta, was attended by Prabowo and other key officials, where he took the presidential oath. In his inaugural speech, he pledged to prioritize the well-being of the Indonesian people, stating, "We will put the interests of the Indonesian people above all groups, and certainly above any personal interests."
He reflected on Indonesia’s journey toward independence, emphasizing the sacrifices made by the nation. "We understand that our independence was not a gift. It was achieved through immense sacrifice," Prabowo noted, reaffirming his commitment to uphold the Constitution and fulfill the duties of his office to the best of his ability.
The inauguration was witnessed by dignitaries from 33 countries, including several ASEAN leaders. Among the distinguished guests were Malaysia's Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Timor-Leste's Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão, Vanuatu's Prime Minister Charlot Tabimasmas, Brunei Darussalam's Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, Laos' Vice President Pany Yathotou, and Vietnam's Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan.
