Cambodia and Thailand Agree on New Steps to Support Cambodian Migrant Workers in Thailand

At a bilateral meeting on October 30, held alongside the 28th ASEAN Labour Ministers' Meeting in Singapore, H.E. Heng Suor, Cambodia's Minister of Labour and Vocational Training, and H.E. Phipat Ratchakitprakarn, Thailand's Minister of Labour, reached an agreement to enhance support for Cambodian migrant workers in Thailand.

Key measures include waiving re-entry permits for Cambodian workers returning to Thailand after Khmer New Year visits and allowing those with visas expiring by February 13, 2025, to renew work permits and extend their stay for two more years.

Additionally, Thailand will consider a Cambodian proposal to assess and certify the skills of Cambodian workers. Cambodian workers will also gain access to similar social security benefits as Thai employees, with plans to link Thailand’s social security fund to Cambodia’s system.

The ministries will further promote the use of IT systems to streamline the process of deploying and receiving Cambodian workers in Thailand.
