Sarawak Regatta: A Celebration of Friendship and Tradition

The Sarawak Regatta, a beloved annual event in Kuching, Malaysia, once again brought together communities from across Southeast Asia. Held from October 25 to November 3, 2024, this year’s regatta offered a vibrant blend of tradition, culture, and friendly competition.

The event featured a diverse range of activities, from traditional music and dance performances to exciting boat races and delicious local cuisine. The highlight of the regatta was undoubtedly the 30-Paddler Bidar Boat race, where the Yayasan Sarawak team emerged victorious, claiming the prestigious title of "King of the River."

The presence of Brunei’s Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah added a special touch to the event. His Majesty’s attendance underscored the strong ties between Sarawak and Brunei, and he presented awards to the winning teams, including the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak’s Trophy for the men’s Bidar 30 Rowers (local) champions. The Brunei Darussalam Boat Race Team also made a commendable showing, securing third place in the men’s Kenyalang 20 Paddlers (VIP) category.

The Sarawak Regatta is more than just a sporting event; it's a cultural celebration that strengthens bonds between communities and preserves Sarawak's rich heritage.
