The Lao government reviewed and celebrated its successful tenure as ASEAN Chair in 2024 during a National Steering Committee meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone.

At the meeting, representatives from 14 sub-committees responsible for managing ASEAN-related events highlighted their achievements, addressed challenges encountered, and proposed strategies to enhance the organization of future regional events.

Prime Minister Sonexay praised the collective efforts of the sub-committees, government ministries, businesses, and provincial authorities, recognizing their critical roles in Laos’ successful chairmanship. He emphasized the importance of applying lessons learned to strengthen Laos’ ability to host future international gatherings.

Guided by the theme “ASEAN: Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience,” Laos’ chairmanship underscored its vision to transform its landlocked geography into a hub for regional integration. The theme reflected ASEAN’s collective aim of fostering stronger connectivity, resilience, and adaptability amidst global challenges.

The success of Laos’ ASEAN leadership was attributed to the collaboration between government bodies, the general public, businesses, and security forces. This teamwork demonstrated Laos’ capability as a proactive and integral member of ASEAN, solidifying its reputation on the regional stage.
