The newly constructed Dara Sakor International Airport in Koh Kong province, southwest Cambodia, is set to commence operations for domestic charter flights this week, according to a civil aviation spokesperson.
Sinn Chanserey Vutha, Undersecretary of State and Spokesperson for the Cambodian State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA), announced that the airport’s first test flight will take place on December 26, connecting Phnom Penh International Airport to Dara Sakor International Airport. Mao Havannall, Minister in charge of the SSCA, will welcome the inaugural flight upon arrival.
“This milestone marks the first air travel to Cambodia’s coastal Koh Kong province,” said Chanserey Vutha in a news release. “It is expected to significantly boost economic growth, tourism, and industry in Koh Kong and across Cambodia.”
Developed by Coastal Airport Investment Co., Ltd., the airport spans 218 hectares in its first phase, with an investment of approximately $200 million. It has the capacity to handle 7 million passengers annually in the medium term, with plans to expand to accommodate up to 20 million passengers annually between 2030 and 2050.
The airport may also accommodate international charter flights based on demand, providing a further boost to connectivity and development in the region.
Dara Sakor International Airport joins Cambodia’s existing network of international airports, which includes Phnom Penh International Airport, Siem Reap Angkor International Airport, and Sihanouk International Airport.
