The National Soft Power Strategy Committee has approved a budget of 220 million baht to support the production of films and short films that highlight Thai culture and identity on an international scale. This initiative aligns with Thailand's broader strategy to harness its cultural assets as a form of soft power.

Dr. Surapong Suebwonglee, Chairman of the National Soft Power Development Committee, announced the decision after the committee's first meeting of 2024. He stressed the pivotal role of the film industry in showcasing Thai culture globally. The budget, allocated for the 2025 fiscal year, is already secured.

Prasop Riengngern, Director-General of the Department of Cultural Promotion, outlined the budget’s allocation, focusing on four key areas: supporting film production, training skilled industry professionals, promoting Thai films at international festivals, and hosting film-related events in Thailand.

The funding is available to various applicants, including businesses, foundations, and educational institutions. Eligible projects must demonstrate diversity, enhance global competitiveness, create employment, and effectively promote Thai culture. Applications can be submitted via the Department of Cultural Promotion’s website from January 6 to February 7, 2025, with funding decisions finalized by late March.

Mom Ratchawong Chalermchatri Yukol, a member of the Subcommittee on Drama, Series, Documentary, and Animation Industries, emphasized the budget’s focus on supporting projects throughout all stages of production, from pre-production to post-production. The aim is to improve the quality of Thai films, develop industry professionals' skills, and generate more job opportunities.

This initiative reflects Thailand's dedication to promoting its cultural identity through compelling storytelling, enhancing its presence on the global cultural Stage.
