Changi Airport Nears Full Recovery in 2024, Handling 67.7 Million Passengers

Changi Airport welcomed 67.7 million passengers in 2024, reaching 99.1% of pre-pandemic levels recorded in 2019. This marks a 14.8% increase from the 58.9 million passengers in 2023, according to the Changi Airport Group (CAG) on January 22.

December 2024 was the airport’s busiest month, with 6.41 million passengers, matching December 2019 levels and exceeding six million passengers for the first time since the pandemic. In the last quarter of 2024, the airport handled 17.8 million passengers, achieving full recovery to 2019's Q4 traffic.

Passenger traffic grew across all regions, with North Asia leading the way with a 40% increase from 2023. China emerged as Changi’s top market, climbing from sixth place in 2023, followed by Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, and Thailand. The busiest routes in 2024 included Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Jakarta, Bali (Denpasar), and Hong Kong.

Air cargo operations also saw significant growth, with 1.99 million tonnes of airfreight handled, a 14.6% increase from 2023. This was driven by strong demand for cross-border e-commerce, recovery in Singapore’s electronics exports, and improved cargo flows with China and the U.S.. Disruptions in maritime transport also contributed to the shift toward airfreight.

With passenger and cargo traffic rebounding strongly, Changi Airport is on track for a full recovery, solidifying its position as a key global aviation hub.
