Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa on Monday (Feb 24) during his official visit to Vietnam from Sunday to Tuesday.
Welcoming Sangiampongsa’s first official visit and his participation in the 2nd ASEAN Future Forum, Chinh expressed confidence that the trip would further strengthen the Enhanced Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Thailand while contributing to the forum’s success.
He called for increased exchanges of high-level delegations across the Party, State, Government, and National Assembly channels and stressed the importance of effectively implementing bilateral cooperation mechanisms, particularly the Joint Cabinet Meeting led by both Prime Ministers.
The Vietnamese Prime Minister acknowledged Thailand’s role as Vietnam’s largest trading partner in ASEAN and its ninth-largest foreign investor.
He urged both nations to collaborate closely to reach the target of US$25 billion in bilateral trade in a more balanced manner by effectively implementing the “Three Connectivity” Strategy and further easing trade between the two countries.
Emphasizing the significance of hard infrastructure connectivity, particularly in road and rail transport, he also stressed the need for stronger institutional and policy coordination. Additionally, he encouraged deeper cooperation in emerging fields such as digital transformation, green transition, and renewable energy.
On this occasion, he called on the Thai government to continue supporting the Vietnamese community living, working, and studying in Thailand.
Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa emphasized that Vietnam is among Thailand’s key regional partners. He expressed his desire to enhance collaboration in areas such as economy, tourism, and connectivity, with a particular focus on advancing the "Six Countries, One Destination" initiative.
