Phuket province has emerged as Thailand’s top tourism earner in 2024, generating an impressive 497.5 billion baht. Chonburi and Surat Thani followed closely, bringing in 316.8 billion baht and 119.1 billion baht, respectively. Other standout destinations included Chiang Mai, Krabi, and Prachuap Khiri Khan, reflecting strong demand for both coastal retreats and cultural experiences.
Building on this success, the government has designated 2025 as the “Golden Year of Thai Tourism.” The goal is to create a year-round travel season by eliminating the traditional low season and ensuring a more balanced distribution of tourism income between major cities and emerging destinations.
Authorities are focusing on increasing visitor numbers and boosting per-visitor spending through improved infrastructure, international events, and expanded travel opportunities to lesser-known areas. To sustain long-term growth, the Department of Tourism is enhancing tourism standards via its Homestay Standard Program, ensuring high-quality experiences that build traveler confidence and attract high-value visitors.
Officials say the outstanding performance of Thailand’s key tourism provinces underscores the sector’s crucial role in driving the nation’s economy. These achievements are now shaping future strategies in marketing, event planning, and infrastructure development to maintain momentum and secure Thailand’s place as a leading global destination.
