Thousands of visitors are expected to gather at Cambodia’s iconic Angkor Wat from March 20 to 22, 2025, to witness the breathtaking Spring Equinox sunrise. During this rare event, the rising sun aligns perfectly with the temple’s central tower, creating a stunning and symbolic sight that draws both local and international tourists.
The phenomenon, which occurs twice a year in March and September, is a remarkable showcase of the ancient Khmer civilization’s advanced understanding of astronomy and architectural design. The sunrise can be observed between 5:00 a.m. and 6:30 a.m., with the most spectacular alignment anticipated on March 21.
The Equinox at Angkor Wat not only highlights the temple’s spiritual and architectural significance but also plays an important role in boosting tourism in Siem Reap. In January alone, Angkor Enterprise reported nearly 150,000 international visitors to the Angkor Archaeological Park, generating $6.9 million in ticket sales—a 26.49% increase compared to the same period last year.
Officials encourage tourists to arrive early at the western entrance of Angkor Wat to secure the best views of this awe-inspiring sunrise, considered one of the most iconic experiences in Cambodia.
