Vietnam’s Bánh Mì Named Among World’s Top 25 Sandwiches

CNN Travel has named Vietnam’s beloved Bánh Mì among the Top 25 best sandwiches in the world for 2025, recognizing the iconic street food for its global appeal and delicious flavor.

According to the website, Bánh Mì is a staple on the streets of Ho Chi Minh City and across Vietnam, with vendors selling the sandwich from carts on nearly every corner. Its popularity has spread far beyond the country's borders, becoming a favorite among food lovers worldwide.

CNN highlighted the classic Bánh Mì as a pork-based sandwich featuring Chả Lụa (Vietnamese-style pork roll), pickled carrots and daikon, fresh cilantro, mayonnaise, and other flavorful ingredients packed inside a crisp, airy baguette. The article also mentioned popular variations, including those made with tofu or lemongrass-marinated chicken, describing the taste as “crunchy, fresh, savory and utterly delicious.”

To make the list, sandwiches had to be well-known representatives of their respective countries, widely enjoyed by locals, and praised for their outstanding taste.

Other notable entries on CNN’s 2025 list include Spain’s Bocadillo de Jamón Ibérico, Italy’s Tramezzino, Middle Eastern Shawarma, Mexico’s Pambazo, the Muffaletta from New Orleans, Uruguay’s Chivito, France’s Pan Bagnat, South Africa’s Spatlo, Tunisia’s Fricassé, the UK’s Chip Butty, Japan’s Katsu Sando, and the Dutch Broodje Haring.
