The Government Public Relations Department of Thailand (PRD), led by Mrs. Sudruetai Lertkasem, PRD's Director-General and accompanied by Mr. Supapong Chaolan, Executive Director of the National Broadcasting Services of Thailand (NBT), attended a meeting with the executives of TVRI. The delegation was warmly welcomed by Mr. Arif Adi Kuswardono, Director of News and Programming.
The discussion focused on enhancing cooperation and exchanging effective strategies in public communication, both under normal circumstances and during crises. Topics included early warning systems, crisis information management, and joint training programmes between the two agencies.
DG Sudruetai highlighted the important role of media during emergencies, emphasizing that the media must serve as a reliable source of information for the public, to reduce panic, counter disinformation, and ensure equitable access to government assistance. She also extended an invitation to TVRI as a full member of the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) to participate in the upcoming AIBD General Conference in Phuket this August.
Both sides decided to exchange news content and programming, including English-language materials from TVRI to be broadcast through PRD’s platforms such as the PRDEE OTT service and the multilingual website www.thailand.go.th, which supports five languages.
TVRI is Indonesia’s first and only state-owned television broadcaster, operating 24 hours both in local languages and English. TVRI takes a key role in disaster reporting and maintains a nationwide network of 33 regional stations. Its operation model shares similarities with Thailand’s NBT. In the past, the two broadcasters have collaborated on ASEAN joint television co-productions, such as a documentary on MSMEs that showcases the wisdom and creative economy of the ASEAN region.
