Myanmar Leader Confirms General Election Will Be Held in December 2025

Myanmar’s State Administration Council (SAC) Chairman and Prime Minister, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, has confirmed that the country’s general election is scheduled to take place in December 2025, reaffirming the government's commitment to restoring the electoral process.

In remarks delivered at a formal meeting in Nay Pyi Taw, the Senior General stressed the importance of ensuring free, fair, and inclusive elections, noting that all eligible voters will be given the opportunity to cast their ballots. He highlighted plans for advance voting to accommodate those unable to vote in person on election day.

He also pointed out the need to reform and organize the Hluttaw (parliament) more systematically, with revisions to relevant laws already underway. Reflecting on the past election in 2020, he said unresolved voter list issues led to the current state of emergency, and pledged that such issues would not be repeated.

“The election must reflect the will of the people,” he said, adding that the administration is committed to a multiparty democratic system and national development.

The Senior General further outlined initiatives in education, economic revitalization, and rural development, emphasizing the importance of internal stability and public cooperation.

He concluded by calling for unity and collaboration as the country enters what he described as a “second chapter,” focused on building a peaceful and prosperous future.
