Lao PDR to Pilot Digital Immigration System for Foreign Travelers on 1 September

Laos will begin testing its new Digital Arrival Registration system on 1 September, replacing traditional paper-based immigration forms for foreign visitors.

The platform requires travelers to submit personal details including passport and visa information, travel itinerary, and accommodation address online within three days before both arrival and departure.

The system applies to all foreign nationals entering Laos by air or land. Thai citizens using a Border Pass instead of a passport are exempt during the trial phase. Lao citizens and foreign permanent residents are also not required to register and may continue using existing procedures.

The online registration will be available in Lao, English and Chinese, and will initially operate at four major checkpoints: Wattay International Airport in Vientiane, Luang Prabang International Airport, Pakse International Airport and the First Lao Thai Friendship Bridge connecting Vientiane with Nong Khai, Thailand.

Authorities will evaluate the system over a two year trial period before expanding it nationwide in 2026.
