Malaysia Reaffirms Commitment to ASEAN Haze-Free Roadmap 2023–2030

Malaysia has reaffirmed its commitment to the ASEAN Roadmap on a Haze-Free Region 2023–2030, the key framework to achieve a haze-free ASEAN by 2030, according to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES).

The pledge was underscored at the 20th Meeting of the Committee (COM-20) under the ASEAN Agreement on Transboundary Haze Pollution (AATHP), chaired by Malaysia in conjunction with its ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025.

The roadmap, NRES noted, is crucial for enhancing preparedness for forest and peatland fires and promoting sustainable natural resource management. The meeting also discussed the ASEAN Haze Pollution Control Fund, progress of the Second Haze-Free Roadmap, the establishment of a new coordinating centre, and the ASEAN Investment Framework for Sustainable Land Management.

Outcomes from COM-20 will feed into the 18th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on the Environment (AMME-18), now underway in Langkawi, where environment ministers and senior officials will address regional cooperation on sustainability, climate change, and inclusive environmental management.
