The Department of Highways has officially opened the Fifth Thai–Lao Friendship Bridge (Bueng Kan–Bolikhamxay), strengthening cross-border connectivity and facilitating travel, transport, and trade between Thailand and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR).
The bridge has been open to the public since 27 December 2025, with the permanent Thai border checkpoint located at Ban Don Yom, Khai Si Subdistrict, Mueang Bueng Kan District, Bueng Kan Province, linking to Ban Kuai Udom, Pakxan District, Bolikhamxay Province in Lao PDR. The crossing operates daily from 6.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m.
During the initial phase, no bridge tolls will be charged while legal and administrative procedures in both countries are being finalised.
Motorists and travellers are advised to prepare all required personal and vehicle documents for inspection by immigration and customs officers at the Bueng Kan border checkpoint. Road users are also urged to strictly comply with traffic regulations and follow instructions from officials on duty.
