China Develops Linyi as New Logistics Gateway to ASEAN, Enhancing Trade Links with Thailand

China is advancing plans to develop Linyi City in Shandong Province into a world-class logistics hub, with a strong focus on strengthening connectivity with ASEAN countries, including Thailand.

According to Chinese authorities, Linyi is being positioned as a fully digital logistics center by 2027, designed to support faster and more efficient cross-border trade through an integrated four-mode transport network covering land, air, sea, and rail.

A key highlight of the initiative is land transport. Linyi is utilizing the Transports Internationaux Routiers (TIR) system to enable door-to-door cross-border deliveries. Two direct overland routes linking Linyi with ASEAN have already been established, allowing simplified customs procedures and eliminating the need for cargo reloading, significantly reducing delivery times.

In addition, plans are underway to expand air cargo services with new routes dedicated to Southeast Asia. On the maritime side, Linyi is partnering with Qingdao Port, which is connected to more than 340 global shipping routes. Rail links from the city currently connect to 12 European countries, further strengthening its role as a multimodal logistics hub.

The development of Linyi is expected to create a new strategic trade gateway, facilitating the movement of goods from China to Thailand and across the wider ASEAN region.
