Malaysia Gains Territory in Sabah After Border Demarcation with Indonesia

Ending a 49-year dispute! PM Anwar Ibrahim confirmed that Malaysia has gained 780 hectares (approx. 7.8 sq.km.) of land along the Sinapad-Sesai rivers in Sabah, following the conclusion of border demarcation talks with Indonesia that began in 1977.

Key Highlights:

The area includes parts of 3 villages near Tawau and a small section on Sebatik Island.

The PM emphasized that this redrawing is based strictly on historical international treaties (1891, 1915, and 1928) and legal frameworks, not a land swap or for profit.
