After the 5th Thai–Lao PDR Friendship Bridge officially opened on 27 December 2026, it generated more than LAK 47.5 billion (approximately 70 million Thai baht) for the Lao PDR government in its first month of operation.
Key goods transported through the checkpoint at this bridge include everyday consumer products such as fuel, electrical appliances, and construction materials. Over the past month, there were more than 6,800 entries into Lao PDR via the bridge and over 7,500 departures from Lao PDR, reflecting an increase in cross-border travel and trade activities.
The bridge directly connects Lao PDR National Road No. 13 with Thailand’s Highway No. 244, creating a road transport route linking the two countries. It is also part of the shortest overland corridor connecting Thailand, Lao PDR, and Vietnam.
The Lao PDR government stated that logistics systems and road infrastructure will continue to be developed, as the bridge plays an important role in supporting Lao PDR’s long-term economic development.
