Martial Law Declared in Seven Districts of Chanthaburi and One District of Trat

Thailand has declared martial law in seven districts in Chanthaburi Province and one district in Trat Province, following rising Thai-Cambodian border tensions.

According to Government Spokesperson Jirayu Houngsub, martial law was declared by the Chanthaburi-Trat Border Defense Command in preparation for safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Thailand, as well as the lives and property of the Thai people.

The seven districts in Chanthaburi Province include Mueang Chanthaburi, Tha Mai, Makham, Laem Sing, Kaeng Hang Maeo, Na Yai Am, and Khao Khitchakut. One province in Trat is Khao Saming.

The Commander of the Chanthaburi-Trat Border Defense Command stated that the imposition of martial law in the additional areas is necessary to deploy military, police, and civilian forces to protect the country from external threats.

This declaration is effective immediately, on 25 July 2025. Both Chanthaburi and Trat in eastern Thailand share borders with Cambodia.
