Vietnam and Japan Support Thailand’s Efforts to Restore Peace in the Region

Vietnam and Japan have exchanged views with Thailand on regional developments, especially the situation along the Thai-Cambodian border. Both countries expressed their support for Thailand’s efforts to restore peace in the region.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Maris Sangiampongsa on 29 July 2025 held a bilateral discussion with Mr. Bui Thanh Son, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, who was on a working visit to Thailand.

Foreign Minister Maris reaffirmed Thailand’s commitment to resolving differences with Cambodia peacefully and in good faith through existing bilateral mechanisms and in accordance with international law. He also emphasized Thailand’s readiness to work closely with ASEAN, including Vietnam, to uphold peace and stability in the region.

On 30 July, Mr. Maris also had a telephone discussion with Mr. Iwaya Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan. Thailand used the opportunity to clarify facts surrounding the Thai-Cambodian border situation, and reiterated its continued determination to resolve the issue using existing bilateral mechanisms between Thailand and Cambodia through peaceful means and in good faith. 

Meanwhile, Government Spokesperson and Member of the Ad Hoc Center for the Thailand-Cambodia Border Situation Jirayu Houngsub stated that the discussions with Vietnam and Japan on the border situation reflect Thailand’s proactive diplomacy in clarifying the situation to the international community.
