Thai Minister of Foreign Affairs Maris Sangiampongsa recently addressed the situation along the Thailand-Cambodia border. He emphasized that the conflict between Thailand and Cambodia is not something Thailand desires and called on Cambodia to use existing bilateral mechanisms, such as the JBC, RBC, and GBC, to settle matters. As fellow ASEAN countries, Thailand and Cambodia should resolve issues peacefully and sincerely.
Regarding the spread of distorted information from Cambodia, Mr. Maris urged the public to consume news carefully and exercise critical judgment, as much of the information has been misleading. Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through embassies, consulates, and Thai offices abroad, has been using available mechanisms and multilateral platforms to clarify Thailand’s stance. All Thai embassies have implemented measures and worked as a team.
The minister has scheduled an online meeting for 7 August 2025 with all Thai embassies to assign guidelines, particularly focusing on psychological warfare and fake news. As distorted information has been spreading constantly, Thailand plans to respond across all sectors and levels to show its sincerity in resolving issues. He also requested that the Malaysian Minister of Foreign Affairs help warn Cambodia to stop spreading fake news.
