Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul has pledged to fully protect Thailand’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and ensure the safety of people, following the latest Thai-Cambodian armed clashes along the border.
The Prime Minister on 8 December 2025 at 12.00 hr delivered a statement at Government House via the Television Pool of Thailand, stressing that Thailand had not initiated the conflict and was ready to respond with military operations in all instances and in accordance with necessity.
The Prime Minister said that, since 7 December 2025, clashes have occurred in several Thai-Cambodian border areas. The Government has been closely monitoring the situation and has instructed all security units to work in an integrated manner at full force to ensure the safety of people and strictly defend national sovereignty.
In the statement, the Government reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, based on international law and Thailand’s legitimate right to self-defense. A meeting of the National Security Council on 8 December resolved that the Government would launch military operations in accordance with the evolving situation and carry out other military measures, as necessary.
The Prime Minister said that the Government was confident about the capabilities of the Thai armed forces, which were carrying out their duties prudently, under clear rules on the use of force and humanitarian principles, to protect the people and maintain peace and order along the border. The Government has instructed all responsible agencies to take good care of people who have evacuated to temporary shelters.
In order to prevent panic and disinformation, the Government called on the public to follow news and information from official sources only. The Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were assigned to act as the lead agencies for public communication on all issues concerning the border situation. The Government will work with the armed forces and security agencies at all levels to ensure that information and updates disseminated to the public are accurate and clear and are in the same direction.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the protecting of the country and the safety of people is the highest mission of both the Government and the Royal Thai Armed Forces. He pointed out that Thailand does not want to see violence, and that it had not initiated the conflict or ever invaded. However, the country will not allow any violation of its sovereignty and will act in a reasonable and prudent manner, guided by the principles of peace, security, and humanitarian basis.
The Government will also continue to keep the public informed, and it is ready to take all necessary measures to maintain national security and protect national sovereignty and territorial integrity, while doing its utmost to protect the people. Moreover, people were urged to join the Government in giving their moral support to the armed forces and supporting the current military operations.
