Cambodian media reported Hun Sen claimed Thailand fired heavy weapons into Cambodia and ordered his troops not to retaliate until a “red line” was crossed.

Thai Army spokesperson Maj. Gen. Winthai Suvaree clarified that Thailand responded first because Cambodia violated agreements, sent forces into Thai territory, planted landmines, and attacked Thai soldiers since 7 Dec.

He stressed the Royal Thai Army has the right to self‑defense to protect sovereignty and civilians, reaffirming Thailand did not start the violence but must act against Cambodia’s repeated provocations.
