Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow on 23 December 2025 held an online discussion with Mr. Jean-Noël Barrot, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the French Republic, on the situation along the Thailand–Cambodia border.
During the discussion, Minister Sihasak thanked the French side for its concern regarding the situation. He also expressed Thailand’s desire to bring the Thailand–Cambodia border situation to an end through peaceful means via bilateral mechanisms.
According to a report from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the discussion reflected the shared intention of both sides to support the easing of tensions and to lead to a sustainable ceasefire.
In addition, both sides recalled the long-standing historical ties between Thailand and France and discussed preparations for the celebration of the 170th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2026.
On the same day, Mr. Sarun Charoensuwan, Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, held discussions with Ambassadors and representatives of Embassies from Central European countries (Austria, Hungary, Poland, Slovak Republic, and the Holy See) on the Thailand-Cambodia border situation.
The participants exchanged their perspectives on the situation in an honest and constructive manner. The Thai side provided the latest update on the Thailand-Cambodia border situation and the outcome of the Special ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, held on 22 December 2025 in Kuala Lumpur.
Thailand reiterated its strong commitment to achieving peace that is genuine, sustainable and grounded in concrete action, while the Thai-Cambodian General Border Committee (GBC) meeting was scheduled to be convened by the militaries of both sides to discuss implementation, related steps and verification of the ceasefire in detail.
Thailand welcomes constructive engagement from friends and partners in order to de-escalate the situation and achieve the cessation of all forms of hostilities.
