China Welcomes Ceasefire Agreement between Thailand and Cambodia

Mr. Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, welcomed the ceasefire agreement between Thailand and Cambodia through bilateral negotiations.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow is paying a visit to Yunnan, China, on 28-29 December 2025, at the invitation of Mr. Wang Yi, following the outcomes of the 3rd Special Meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) between Thailand and Cambodia on 27 December.

Both Thai and Chinese foreign ministers on 28 December exchanged views on latest developments on the Thailand-Cambodia border situation after the ceasefire agreement. The Thai side appreciated China’s role and understanding in supporting peace between Thailand and Cambodia through the Asian way. 

Thailand is of the view that the adjustment of diplomatic relations should be done gradually to gain trust and confidence from both sides. The Thai side will consider the release of 18 prisoners of war after the observation of 72 hours ceasefire period and hopes that Cambodia will facilitate the return of Thais along the border.

China reiterated its respect for non-interference principle and expressed readiness to be a platform to support lasting peace between the two countries.
