Mr. Sarun Charoensuwan, Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, has exchanged views on the recent developments along the Thailand-Cambodia border with the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Thailand and Ambassadors and Representatives of the Embassies of Eastern European Countries.
Mr. Sarun and the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Thailand, Mr. Evgeny Tomikhin, engaged in a constructive and straightforward discussion on 29 December 2025. The Thai side provided updates on the latest developments, including efforts to address the Thai-Cambodian border issue through bilateral mechanisms. Thailand reaffirmed its desire to see genuine and sustainable peace. To achieve lasting peace, sincerity must be demonstrated through a permanent and sustained ceasefire and cooperation on humanitarian demining efforts.
The Russian side expressed its hope that Thailand and Cambodia would be able to achieve a peaceful settlement through dialogue and avoid any further deterioration of bilateral relations. The Ambassador noted that the ongoing situation is rooted from the legacy of colonialism and the parties concerned need to understand the root cause of the problem in order to resolve the conflict.
On the same day, Mr. Sarun had a discussion with Ambassadors and representatives of the Embassies of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Romania, the Republic of Türkiye, and Ukraine, with a particular focus on the ceasefire arrangement between Thailand and Cambodia and possible next steps. The Thai side briefed and exchanged views on efforts to sustain the ceasefire through bilateral mechanisms and ASEAN frameworks.
Mr. Sarun also shared information on the release of 18 Cambodian soldiers 72 hours after the ceasefire, in accordance with the agreement between the two sides, as well as on humanitarian demining efforts and the Minister of Foreign Affairs’ participation in the trilateral meeting between Thailand, China and Cambodia in China.
The Thai side expressed its readiness to cooperate closely with friendly countries and its commitment to supporting joint efforts to strengthen security and achieve sustainable peace. The diplomatic corps expressed appreciation for the briefing and for the establishment of channels for communication on this matter.
