The Joint Information Center on the Thailand-Cambodian Situation (JIC) on 30 July 2026 at 19.00 hr issued a release giving a clarification on the allegations regarding the detention of prisoners of war (POWs).
According to the release, JIC firmly rejects the allegations made by the Cambodian side concerning the detention of 18 POWs. The call for an investigation into this matter is an attempt to fabricate a new narrative and distort the facts, which goes completely against the evidence and the actual events that transpired.
Throughout their custody in Thailand, the POWs were treated in strict accordance with the related guidelines and principles under International Humanitarian Law. This standard of care was witnessed and corroborated by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), which conducted visits to the POWs.
Furthermore, following the conclusion of the ceasefire agreement, Thailand proceeded to repatriate all POWs.
The JIC urges all parties to refrain from fabricating narratives or reviving issues that have concluded. Such actions only distort the truth and negatively impact bilateral relations and the atmosphere of mutual trust.
