The State Visit to the People’s Republic of China by His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua and Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana, scheduled for 13-17 November 2025, underlines the deep-rooted friendship and mutual understanding shared between Thailand and China at all levels.
This historic State Visit marks the first that a reigning Thai monarch has made a visit to China since the two nations established diplomatic relations half a century ago. Thailand and China officially established their diplomatic ties on 1 July 1975, with the signing of the Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations in Beijing by Thai Prime Minister Kukrit Pramoj and Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai. In 2012, both countries declared the establishment of the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership.
The year 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Thai-Chinese diplomatic relations, and it has also been designated the "Golden Jubilee of Thailand-China Friendship." Relations between both nations are described as one family and have maintained robust development.
In 1987, His Majesty the King, who was then His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn, represented King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great on an official visit to China. In 2000, Her Majesty Queen Sirikit visited China on behalf of King Rama IX.
Other members of the Royal Family also made many visits to China on various occasions. Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn has visited China more than 50 times. Her Royal Highness, in particular, was bestowed with the Friendship Medal, the highest honor given by the Chinese government to foreigners. The award was presented in 2019 by President Xi Jinping in a ceremony, held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the State Visit of Their Majesties the King and Queen of Thailand to China from 13 to 17 November 2025 will further strengthen Thailand-China bilateral relations for years to come, bringing lasting benefits to the peoples of both countries.
