State Visit of His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen to Laos

His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua and Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana will pay a State Visit to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) on 16-18 March 2026 at the invitation of Mr. Thongloun Sisoulith, President of the Lao PDR.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 13 March, the State Visit is to further strengthen the longstanding friendship and close relations between Thailand and the Lao PDR. This is the first visit in 32 years to the Lao PDR of a Thai monarch, since Their Majesties King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great and Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother visited the Lao PDR on 7-8 April 1994.

On this auspicious occasion, Their Majesties the King and Queen will participate in the Official Welcoming Ceremony and will meet with the President of the Lao PDR and his spouse at the Presidential Palace on 17 March 2026. Therefore, Mr. Sonexay Siphandone, Prime Minister of the Lao PDR, and his spouse, as well as Mr. Xaysomphone Phomvihane, President of the National Assembly of the Lao PDR, and his spouse, will be received in audience by Their Majesties. In the evening, Their Majesties will attend a Blessing Ceremony and a State Banquet, hosted by the President of the Lao PDR at the Presidential Palace.

During the State Visit, Their Majesties the King and Queen will visit the Huayxone-Huayxua Agricultural Development Service Center in Vientiane, the first royal project established in the Lao PDR under the initiative of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great. Their Majesties will also pay homage to the Phra That Luang at the That Luang Museum, where the sacred relics of the Lord Buddha are enshrined, as well as visiting the exhibition of the Lao silk and traditional textiles at the Traditional Lao Silk Residence.

The State Visit takes place as the Kingdom of Thailand and the Lao PDR celebrated the 75th Anniversary of the establishment of the Thailand-Lao PDR Diplomatic Relations in 2025. The milestone event will further strengthen the close relations between the two neighboring countries and enhance longstanding people-to-people ties.
