Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana is on a visit to Japan to attend the 2027 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Ice Hockey Women's Asia Championship in Sapporo and present medals and trophies to the athletes.
The visit, scheduled for 14-22 October 2026, is at the invitation of the President of the IIHF, in Her Majesty’s role as the IIHF's first Women's Global Ambassador. Earlier this year, Her Majesty attended the sport's medal matches at the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 in Milan.
The IIHF invited Her Majesty the Queen to be its first Ambassador for Women's Ice Hockey in 2023, in recognition of Her Majesty's support for and personal participation in ice hockey, which has contributed significantly to the sport – especially women's ice hockey – in Thailand, Asia, and around the world.
Queen Suthida piloted the royal aircraft by herself to Japan, departing from Don Mueang Military Airport in Bangkok and landing at New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido, before driving herself to her hotel in Sapporo.
Her Majesty will return to Don Mueang Military Airport on Thursday, 22 October, at 17.00 hr.
