The Ministry of Culture will confer upon Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn the title of the Patron of Thailand’s National Archives, in recognition of her great contribution to the development of preservation activities in national archives.

The Cabinet, during its meeting on 6 June 2023, acknowledged the presentation of the distinguished title to Her Royal Highness, following a proposal by the Ministry of Culture.

It was told that the National Culture Commission on 6 June 2022 had decided to confer the title of the Patron of Thailand’s National Archives on Her Royal Highness on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the National Archives of Thailand in 2022.

The decision was meant to honor Her Royal Highness, who provides support for archival activities. Her Royal Highness has also offered advice on new knowledge and technology concerning archival work. She also gives importance to archival education programs in universities in Thailand, so that graduates who are knowledgeable and capable of archival management and research will be produced for national development and the benefit of later generations.

In this regard, the National Culture Commission assigned the Fine Arts Department, under the Ministry of Culture, to handle this matter. It also appointed a subcommittee to collect and screen information for the presentation of the distinguished title to the Princess.

The Ministry of Culture told the Cabinet that both His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua and Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn had been informed of the issue.

The National Archives of Thailand is an agency under the supervision of the Fine Arts Department. It is responsible for collecting and preserving historical records and making them available to the public. It also advises various agencies on records management and preservation.
