Thirteen Thai Universities Rated among the Top Global Universities

A total of 13 universities in Thailand have been listed in the QS World University Rankings 2024, according to a report released recently by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a London-based company and one of the world’s leading higher education specialists.

The 20th edition of the QS World University Rankings features 1,500 institutions across 104 countries and territories. It is based and weighted on nine indicators, namely (1) Academic Reputation, (2) Employer Reputation, (3) Faculty-Student Ratio, (4) Citations per Faculty, (5) International Student Ratio, (6) International Faculty Ratio. (7) International Research Network, (8) Employment Outcomes, and (9) Sustainability.

Among the 13 Thai universities listed in the QS World University Rankings 2024, Chulalongkorn University, the oldest university in Thailand, ranks first for the 15th consecutive year. It is ranked 211 in the QS rankings. 

Other Thai universities on the list include Mahidol University, Chiang Mai University, Thammasat University, Kasetsart University, Prince of Songkla University, Khon Kaen University, King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi, King Mongkut's University of Technology North Bangkok, King Mongkut's University of Technology Ladkrabang, Naresuan University, Silpakorn University, and Suranaree University of Technology.

In ASEAN, Malaysia takes the lead with 28 ranked universities, followed by Indonesia with 26, Thailand 13, Vietnam 5, the Philippines 5, Singapore 4, and Brunei Darussalam 2.

Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha was pleased with the report, as it reflects the reputation and standards of Thailand’s higher educational institutions at the international level. He said that the Government was ready to support all dimensions of education in Thailand and create greater flexibility in the educational system, in response to the demands of learners.

Moreover, the Prime Minister said, Thailand’s education needs to keep pace with the rapidly changing context worldwide in order to develop its human resources for the better future of the country.
