Airports of Thailand Public Company (AOT) aims to develop Thailand into a global aviation hub, which will enhance Thailand’s competitiveness, promote the tourism industry, and provide more economic opportunities, thus creating greater stability for the country. 

Thailand has great potential to become a global hub, as it is located in the middle of the Asia-Pacific region, borders three neighboring countries, and receives privileges from ASEAN aviation liberalization.

AOT is accelerating its operations in line with the 10-year master plan on the development of airports, in order to accommodate 150 million passengers annually and make Thailand one of the 10 largest product distribution centers in the world.

There are currently six airports under the supervision of AOT. They are (1) Suvarnabhumi Airport, (2) Don Mueang International Airport, (3) Chiang Mai International Airport, (4) Mae Fah Luang Chiang Rai International Airport, (5) Phuket International Airport, and (6) Hat Yai International Airport.

AOT has adopted new technologies and innovations for passengers at these six airports to ease congestion and provide them with quick and efficient services. They include, for instance, the common use terminal equipment, the common use self-service, the common use bag drop, the passenger validation system, and the individual carrier system.

In order to cope with the growing aviation industry in this region, AOT is also developing aviation-related industries, such as those concerning the Maintenance Repair and Overhaul and private jets. The objective is to encourage airlines from all over the world to come to Thailand to open their new routes, in response to the expansion of aviation markets in the Asia-Pacific.

Moreover, AOT is preparing to develop local airports as aviation centers in this region and ease the volume of air traffic in Thailand’s major airports. The local airports will connect with the travel of tourists to secondary tourist cities in the country, as well.
